Our Fire escape down and left signs are from our extensive range of photo-luminescent fire signs covering all your needs. These Fire escape down and left signs are intermediate signs to be used to ensure an efficient and smooth egress in the event of a fire. The Fire escape down and left signs are manufactured in line with BS 16069 and are used to continuously reinforce the exit message every 5-10 metres. They should not be used in isolation instead of ISO 7010 signs, also available on our website.
BS ISO 16069 is the British Standard relating to the planning, design and marking for Safety Way Guidance Systems. In addition to the requirement for installing exit signs at 1.7m-2.2metres from the ground, this standard recommends that additional intermediate and low location markings may also be required. Position at a maximum height of 400mm from the floor for low level marking.
Subject to a full risk assessment, additional escape guidance should be provided through the use of both continuous guidance lines and safety signs to ensure there is an uninterrupted safety sign system to aid an efficient and safe evacuation from a building. Fire fighting equipment, hazards along an escape route, boundaries, stairs and ramps should also be identified.
Please note we offer next day delivery on all standard products ordered before 2pm and free courier delivery on orders over £75.
Health and safety signs regulations
The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) – Regulations 1996, requires employers to ensure that safety signs are provided (or are in place). The safety signs should be maintained in circumstances where there is a significant risk to health and safety that has not been removed or controlled by other methods.
The Regulations implement European Council Directive 92/58/EEC on minimum requirements for the provision of safety signs at work. The Directive standardises safety signs throughout member states of the European Union (EU) so that wherever a particular safety sign is seen it provides the same message. The intention is that workers moving from site to site, such as service engineers, will not be faced with different signs at different workplaces.
There are viewing distance guides available on our safety sign buying guide page. These assist in determining the appropriate size of safety signs under various light conditions.
